Overview
Scatena Media Group engages independent publicists on a per-project basis to provide specialized media relations and earned media strategy for client campaigns requiring targeted expertise. The Publicist operates as an independent professional, maintaining their own business, media relationships, and client base.

Scope of Services
Per engagement, the Publicist may be retained to deliver defined project outputs, which may include:
- Media outreach strategies and targeted media lists for specific campaigns or announcements
- Press kit development, including media backgrounders, fact sheets, and talking points
- Media pitching and placement coordination within the publicist’s established networks
- Earned media campaign plans with defined placement goals and timelines
- Event-specific publicity strategies, including pre-event buzz, day-of media coordination, and post-event coverage follow-up
- Crisis-adjacent media response drafts and reactive media statements
- Media training preparation materials and key message frameworks
- Publicity strategies for capital campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and donor recognition for nonprofit and mission-driven organizations
- Media relations support for enrollment campaigns, institutional announcements, and community engagement for higher education institutions and K-12 districts
Deliverable Structure
Each engagement will be scoped through a written project agreement specifying deliverables, placement targets, timeline, and project fee. Work product is delivered on a per-project basis, not on an hourly or ongoing retainer schedule.
Qualifications
- Established independent publicity practice or media relations consultancy
- Demonstrated and active media relationships across relevant beats and outlets
- Strong track record of earned media placements in target-tier publications
- Experience developing and executing media outreach strategies across traditional, digital, and broadcast channels
- Familiarity with the nonprofit, community organization, and mission-driven sector, including media strategies for capital campaigns, donor engagement, and community partnerships
- Familiarity with the higher education and K-12 landscape, including media relations for enrollment, institutional reputation, and education-sector communications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing spokespeople
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years in media relations or publicity roles (agency-side, in-house, or independent)
- Specialized media relationships in one or more verticals relevant to Scatena Media Group’s client base
- Experience securing placements across local, regional, and national outlets
- Prior publicity work for nonprofit organizations, community-based groups, or social impact campaigns
- Experience supporting higher education institutions or K-12 school districts with media relations
- Familiarity with media monitoring and coverage tracking tools
AI Use Policy
Contractors may use AI-assisted tools as part of their professional workflow, subject to the following requirements:
- Confidential client information, proprietary strategy documents, and embargoed materials may not be entered into any third-party AI platform
- All deliverables must reflect original thinking, professional judgment, and strategic intent — AI tools may support but not replace the contractor’s own expertise
- Contractors are responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, and quality of all work product, regardless of whether AI tools were used in its development
- Use of AI-generated content must be disclosed to Scatena Media Group upon delivery if it constitutes a substantial portion of any deliverable
- Specific AI use restrictions may be outlined in individual project agreements based on client requirements
Compensation
Project-based fees, negotiated per engagement based on scope and deliverables.
